Lidl Hungary has unveiled its largest logistics facility in the country, located in Kiskunfélegyháza, following a significant investment of close to 60 billion forints, which equates to approximately €162 million. This new center is set to enhance the retailer’s distribution capabilities by supplying around 70 of its stores across Hungary.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the newly opened logistics hub has resulted in the creation of more than 400 jobs, with plans underway to recruit an additional 50 employees soon. Designed with efficiency in mind, the facility boasts 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated area, which are supported by energy-efficient systems. Notably, the center includes a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation and a system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.
In addition to its operational features, the logistics center is complemented by a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area, enhancing the environmental sustainability of the site. Such forward-thinking initiatives underline Lidl’s commitment to integrating eco-friendly technologies into its infrastructure.
With an anticipated throughput of approximately 4,500 pallets of goods per day, this strategic facility is poised to strengthen Lidl’s nationwide supply chain network. It supports a growing retail footprint, as Lidl currently manages 220 stores throughout Hungary, with nearly 60% of its products sourced from local suppliers.
The opening of this logistics center reflects Lidl’s ongoing expansion efforts and its dedication to bolstering domestic operations, ensuring that its retail outlets are well-stocked and efficiently serviced across the region.
