China’s foreign trade has experienced robust growth in the first eight months of this year, with the total value of imports and exports reaching 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a year-on-year increase of 17.6%. During this period, exports amounted to 20.17 trillion yuan, reflecting a rise of 14.6%, while imports surged by 22% to 14.61 trillion yuan.
The pace of trade expansion gained further momentum in August, as the total value of imported and exported goods rose by 19.8% year-on-year, reaching 4.65 trillion yuan. Specifically, exports in August saw an 18.6% increase, while imports grew by 21.7% compared to the same month last year.
Significantly, both exports and imports have consistently recorded double-digit growth rates year-on-year for the past four months. Notably, import growth has surpassed export growth for the last six months, underscoring a shift in the trade dynamics.
This ongoing trend highlights the strength and resilience of China’s trade sector, as it continues to navigate the complexities of the global market. The sustained growth in imports and exports reflects the country’s dynamic economic activity and its integration into international trade networks.
